A benefit for the gallery at Harriet’s Alter Ego, an art space inside a clothing shop where the works of 60 emerging artists have shown there work, Style Klash features DJ sets, live performances, a fashion show, indie designer market, affordable art expo, open bar from 9-11pm, and complimentary appetizers and desserts. Known for their amazing cheesecakes, Juniors offers a pretty damn good menu too. Though it’s your old school deli style food, personally, my favorite dish is the Bar-B-Q fried chicken and the Mac & Cheese is officially the best traditional version of it I’ve ever had. Probably one of the best bars in the area simply due to its ethno-Brooklyn vibe. Everyone looks cool here and is friendly. Good music and great drinks, its a great place to chill. For dessert, stop by Tillie’s. It’s one of the best places in the area to get coffee, cupcakes, and cookies. The environment here is laid back.

For fans of 60s garage rock you really can’t go wrong with Holly Golightly. She’s been creating authentic and brilliant songs for years, and with her new backup band The Broke-offs, she takes her music out of the garage and adds some acoustic and country flair. What sounds like a vegetarian’s nightmare is actually a gourmet pizza restaurant. Chickie Pig’s offers some interesting brick oven thin-crust pies like The Pig’s Fig Pie with fig jam reduction, Gorgonzola, proscuitto, and chives ($15). If you have the desire to ride a bull when you order a pint, then you’re in luck! Mason Dixon offers both. Seriously, you can drink and ride a friggin’ mechanical bull here! For a good time or if your goal is to get trashed, hit up 151. There’s no sign outside, but inside, happy hour is 2 for 1 everyday from 6-10pm.

In this multimedia installation by artist Ashanti Chaplin, she explores themes of voyeurism, mimetic crisis, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the use of performance, sculpture, video, and sound. Come hear recorded and edited confessions and even make your own to Ashanti live, which makes this event sound like even more fun! Not just a great name for a restaurant, Il Bastardo offers excellent Italian food, seafood, and steak in a large and beautifully designed space. With an interesting menu of cosmos and cocktails like the Fother Mucker, made with Zygo, a locally distilled energy vodka, Brite Bar is a gorgeously designed bar that looks like a lounge but is way more fun. One of my favorite coffee houses due to the fact that they are doing a great job of reinventing the wheel when it comes to making coffee, is Café Grumpy. Here, every cup is freshly pressed and the latte’s are thick and rich tasting.

Mountain Goat head songwriter John Darnielle is like that old curmudgeon uncle that is a downer all the time but is generally right on the money with every point he makes. Thankfully the Mountain Goats can also be funny though lately somber. Joining them is Kaki King who most likely will join them for a couple of tunes they recorded together off the 12 inch Black Pear Tree. Before that, a great restaurant on the same block is SEA. Asian inspired from the décor to the food, this huge and gorgeous space serves up a mostly Thai menu from massaman curries to house specialties like Red SEA Duck (Half duck in red vinaigrette-tomato gravy sauce served with stir-fried mixed veggies), SEA is inexpensive and visually impressive for Brooklyn. With an increasing amount of new bars on the block, Zablozki’s is a standout that’s cozy, mostly mahogany, and has great drinks specials. A great stop off if you’re early is Academy Records. One of the biggest vinyl shops in NYC, if you are a vinyl fan, you will be blown away.

Deerhunter have been getting a lot of recognition lately by making music that combines garage rock, noise rock and punk to name a few. Check out their newest album Microcastle to hear what I mean. Joining them are Times New Viking who are also getting lot’s of attention for their lo-fi indie rock album Rip it Off. For din-din, check out Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant. Serving up sandwiches, omelletes, and baked goods for breakfast and lunch, for dinner expect the likes of Pan Seared Halibut with sweet corn succotash, herb roasted tomatoes, and summer squash ($19). Named after the poet Paul Verlaine, the bar offers an asian food and drink menu. While you can’t order the absinthe that probably helped kill the poet, you can order drinks like the El Chupacabra, which is better tasting with a kick of its own. If you like pickles, Guss’ Pickles has been around since 1910, it’s a landmark spot, and still makes a great pickle.

Check out the biggest flea market in Brooklyn as 150 vendors sell everything from vintage furniture, clothing, collectibles and antiques to new jewelry, art and crafts by local artisans, and delicious food. Right across the street from BAM, Thomas Beisl, a Viennese Bistro and bar, offers staple food like Wiener Schnitzel ($15) and Beef Gulash ($16), while even offering something for vegetarians like the Polenta Gratin with fontina cheese mushroom ragout, roasted peppers, and curried coconut lentils ($14). Cozy and eclectic like the surrounding area, Stonehome Wine Bar features a very thorough wine list hitting all the best winemaking spots in the world. O’Connors, though dark, has cheap pints, and the half hipster half old man clientele makes the vibe here all the more interesting, plus Eliot Smith drank himself silly here on many a night.
